I'm on the Horizons gap year scheme and work as a Technology Consulting Analyst. On a day-to-day basis I do a lot of work with Excel and PowerPoint. I am the key point of contact for various tasks within my project, helping me to gain a sense of responsibility.
I have learnt how to code VBA which is a great skill to have as it helps to analyse large amounts of data much quicker than a human could. It was rewarding to have successfully learnt it as my background is not tech related at all.
The work I have been given in the past was challenging which I liked as it pushed me to work harder and learn new things. Both teams I have worked with have been great in welcoming me and making me feel a part of the team.
My manager made me feel like a valued part of the team from the moment I joined and I regularly had praise and recognition for my work by other managers, senior managers etc..
The programme overall is very well structured with the exception of after finishing your first project, finding a second one sometimes proves a difficult task if your scheduler does not offer you to clients.
My HR contact is great and always gets back to me in a timely manner if I have any queries or problems, however, these are limited and so I have not a huge amount of contact with her.
My manager and mentors have both given me all required support to enable me to get the most out of my internship. Regular catch-ups ensure that I can communicate any issues I have.
As I have had to relocate to London, my salary does not cover my rent and living costs and therefore my parents help. Although if you do not have to relocate and can live at home, I think the salary is generous.
There are a lot of things you can get involved in such as Charity Days helping the local community and hundreds of societies within Accenture. There are also events specific to an account, for example, a spin-class at a certain client I worked on.
Yes
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the company as they give great support to new joiners and even the work I get as an intern is valued by the client and my manager.
The assessment day was nerve-racking but it helps when they tell you that as long as you meet a certain bench-mark then you get an offer to join Accenture. It is not like everyone is competing against each other.
