I am currently completing my L3 Warehousing and Storage Apprenticeship. During the L3 Qualification I have been more involved in deputy roles. Working on the Produce department for 4 months, I covered daily tasks such as managing the front intake desk, this means dealing with all delivery paperwork and managing the loading staff. I also booked in the deliveries and the bread and flower intake. I had to release the flower and bread intake on the system once booked in so that the pickers could start picking the stock. It was my responsibility to make sure all store number stickers are written out at the beginning of each shift ready to send the shippers and plants to store. Another responsibility I had was to priorities my work and be organised so that my NVQ written work was completed every month ready for my assessors visit. At the end of each shift it was important that I completed the daily feedback sheet and also printed the truck sheet and break sheet for the next working day. On the accuracy and auditing department which I have recently moved to, I carry out daily checks such as a bulk, racking, goods in and lane check. I need to make sure all these checks are accurate.
Since the last survey I have completed L2 in Warehousing and Storage. I have learnt what jobs the deputies have to do throughout the working day. I have now been put onto the list to carry out my bulk and fork lift course in March 2017.
I am currently enjoying work. The team I worked with on the produce department were encouraging and made me feel welcome. I carried out a lot more deputy roles on that department however I feel that more projects for the apprentices could be an improvement.
I feel valued by Aldi. I am given important tasks to complete and I am given feedback from the section leaders and deputies. I am always thanked at the end of each shift and treated with respect. I feel as some more projects could be put in place.
I feel that my programme is organised, however the structure of department move has been changed due to other staff members. I think this is something that all apprentices should have stuck by to get an equal opportunity in each department. I think altogether I am given enough time throughout the month to complete my NVQ work ready for the next assessor visit. I am currently on the list to complete my bulk and reach truck course in March.
I think that my assessor gives me a lot of support however it is hard to discuss problems I have with the NVQ units due to the assessor not having experience throughout the warehouse therefore I go to a deputy for help with knowledge questions. I have not tried to access my assessor when she is not in the warehouse however I have been given her phone number and her email address so I think it would be easy for me to contact her for any support or guidance.
I have moved onto the accuracy and auditing team within the past few weeks from moving from the produce department. I think the section leaders help a lot in the department as they give a lot of support and help me think about the future and not just the present. I know that I can front any of the section leaders about any problems I am having and I think they put in a lot of effort to support me.
I think my salary meets all my costs. As I am 19, have a brand new car and not living with parents, I think this is important as I need money for the place that I live, for daily costs such as gas and electric and also water bill and TV licence. Once all bills are paid and petrol put into my car I think I have enough of my wages for social costs.
I think there are some opportunities outside of work. I have been invited to past career events at schools which I took place at. However I think that more opportunities outside of work could be put into place. Since I left High School I went straight a Business Administration apprenticeship. I then carried out the cleaning job once my apprenticeship finished for just over 1 month until I started my L2 Warehousing and Storage. I still currently carry out my part time cleaning job alongside my current apprenticeship.
Yes
I think it is a secure job which could lead to a future career. Aldi has a lot of opportunities to work up to a high position within the company. I think that I currently get payed really well however hard work is required.
I think that when applying for Aldi a good first impression needs to be made. During the application process you need to sell yourself to the company to convince them that you are the best person for this job opportunity. Involving all outside activities that you take part in to show you can work as part of a team and individually. During the interview you are required to talk about yourself, this is the time you should go into as much detail as possible about yourself to prove you are a good candidate for the job. During assessment days you should be confident in yourself, ask a lot of questions and get involved. You will need to stand out from all the other candidates on the assessment days. There is a lot of opportunities that you could get involved in when working for Aldi so I think you should really push yourself and make the most out of what is offered.
