Job Role: Electrical and electronic Engineering Higher Apprentice My apprenticeship scheme is based upon placements around the business along side an NVQ level4, HNC, HND and leading on to a degree. The rotational placements give apprentices an opportunity to see the business as a whole. As we progress through the apprenticeship the placements get longer so that we can learn more in depth. The daily tasks change according to the placement. I interact with my placement manager and my colleagues on a daily basis. We work on different projects throughout our apprenticeship in order to satisfy NVQ requirements and the placement requirements.
I have gained a Level 2 PEO and am on my way towards my HNC and HND. I have took part in training such as the CCNSG safety passport, low voltage code of practice and product specific training. I have developed as a person and recently became the EEF Higher apprentice of the year.
I enjoy my work on a daily basis and like the people I work with. I have built up lots of good relationships within Siemens and feel comfortable. Working life exceeds my initial expectations.
I feel very valued by Siemens as an employee and an apprentice. Siemens have a great level of respect for apprentices and ensure the best knowledge and training is available. I have recently won the EEF higher Engineering apprentice award also.
The organization is good, placement rotations are planned well in advance and training is also planned. The structure is good and I feel gives a good insight into the company functions. We have regular meetings with our line manager monitor our progress.
We receive adequate support from our training provider, however some of the teaching is not at a great standard and marking can take a long time.
We receive ample support from Siemens who ensure we get the correct training. My manager is very approachable and knowledgeable.
The salary is adequate and around the average for higher apprenticeships, however some schemes are paid higher. The increments are fair but I feel that the starting salary after the apprenticeship is lower than a few companies
