Monday and Wednesday are spent working on tasks aiming to enhance our corporate skills, this includes soft skills such as presenting, excel and power point etc. But also includes more demanding skills such as programming. Tuesday and Thursday are our degree days, where we are allocated a specific study rooms just for us to complete all of our pre work for the lecture which takes place in the evening, which we can do from home which is lovely. Finally Fridays, and any other free time we have (I normally use Wednesdays too)we spend with our teams. I am positioned under Global Technology Infrastructure in Vendor Management, a role where I am constantly involved in active engagements with numerous different vendors. My manager brings me into meetings, sets me constant tasks such as building spread sheets, analyzing proposals from vendors, creating presentation to present to other members of GTI. It is a role that constantly keeps me engaged, I am a valued team member, my manager wants me to learn so that I can become the best employee I can be.
I have learnt many skills since starting the apprenticeship, I am currently learning how to program, in the coding language Python. I have been taught how to work excel to a very high level, I have been taught presenting skills for a corporate environment. My manager has also taught me many skills in 'good business practice', for example writing up every meeting, sending out bi-weekly reports, therefore keeping the business transparent and honest.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme, JP constantly challenge me and push me to grow and learn. However, they also appreciate that we are fresh out of school and cater to that, making it fun, giving us opportunities to socialize etc. We have the best of both worlds.
Extremely, something that I really noticed was that we are not seen as an 'apprentice' we are seen as a team member and given the same voice as everyone else. Further, we are given large amounts of exposure to many highly ranked employees, this makes me feel values as they feel we represent the companies young talent well enough to meet the CIO's and high ranked MD's.
Very well structured. It had been clearly well thought out, however, if we did find any issues with the structure our voices were listened to and changes were made accordingly.
They are very good at responding to and queries we have, we have had visits from lectures to help us with topics we struggled with etc. they have been very supportive, its clear they want us top achieve.
Huge amounts, the schools team who are in charge of hiring us stay as our support network throughout the program, they are constantly checking up on us, offering us support and truly make the effort to get to know us on an individual basis. Further, they will constantly provide us with opportunities to get exposure etc.
Each month I just about scrape by, the area in which we live is expensive therefore living costs are high, rent etc. My salary is enough for living costs each month but in the last week I definitely have to stretch my money.
Many, there is always something going on in JP, from careers events at locals schools which we always help out at to good works projects which we invite the elderly in for Christmas dinner and Burns night etc. Also many extra curricular clubs such as netball, football, badminton, loads!
Yes
This opportunity is something I feel truly lucky to have got, even though I did work hard for it. I get a degree a fantastic job and a brilliant social life all in one. The way the world is going, getting a job is becoming harder and harder for grads etc. We get a head start and will be ahead of any grad that joins, its a lot of fun and definitely hard work but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Be confident and inquisitive, ask questions and do your research, be able to respond to questions about JP. you can never be over prepared.
