I work as a level 4 competent service technician. I will either attend a faulted turbine or I will service a turbine. My role involves carrying out preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and fault finding on various models of wind turbine.
Yes I have learned how to safely work with stored energy systems such as electricity, hydraulics of mechanical (springs etc). I have also gained valuable fault finding skills on wind turbine systems.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship with Siemens and I believe the training I have received to be "World Class" .
I feel valuable to the company as the recognition structure in place is very good. I have received several "champions awards" that resulted in e vouchers, I receive a generous Christmas bonus every year and finally i have attended the work award ceremony.
I think the training is good and the overall structure makes sense, but courses for career advancement could be more easily accessible. I think options should be available for those wanting to attain further qualifications such as a HNC etc.
I have received great support from tutors and technical trainers, I can't complain.
Again support from my employer at site level and office level has been excellent.
Great salary for an apprentice, my only complaint is our food allowance as we have to pay for food out of our own pocket when working away which can become very costly on a 2 week rotation, or training abroad.
Siemens encourages volunteering and they can give you up to two paid days to do so.
Yes
It is a great opportunity that opens up multiple career paths within the engineering Industry.
The biggest issue is living away from home as the job can require a lot of travel. Sometimes months away from home are required and this can be challenging.
