Currently as a technician apprentice, four month placements throughout the programme are given to give each apprentice as a broad overview of a variety of jobs within the business. These placements involve rotations to departments such as manufacturing support, which involves solving manufacturing errors, design office, to which I modify existing drawings, create new models or undertake project development work. As a technical apprentice, my specified pathway is design office, which allows me to focus on my responsibilities within that job role for my future career after the apprenticeship. Internally and externally throughout placements, it is expected I work professionally with each department, assisting where relevant and communicating internally/externally with customers.
Targets are given to each apprentice and I work towards my own targets to develop my personal learning. This can be for my college work, such as NVQ or BTEC qualifications, or it can be for internal training such as health and safety or operating equipment. I've learnt how to work professionally within a department and I am continually developing my personal and academic skills.
I enjoy the programme in the sense that it is taking me down the pathway that I aspire to go down, yet giving me an open pathway if I wish. The programme gives me useful qualifications and allows me to become established within the business.
I feel appreciated by managers/staff as they all treat me as an equal employee, therefore praise me like other employee's. Undertaking projects allows me to have a sense of achievement as this provides a benefit for the company, often cost and time saving procedures are changed.
The induction was good, as an apprentice I was guided into the business and constant support is offered by HR if needed. Training is also well organised and given to us when we require it. Lincoln college can be dependant on staff, however this is through no fault of the company or the scheme and it is currently working to be resolved.
In relation to the previous answer, this can be dependant on tutors within the college, support can be given, however it can be inconsistent due to the college itself; once again this is through no fault of the business.
Support is good from my training provider, we are given the freedom as a respected employee and allowed to be independent, but if we do need support, it is always there when needed.
The salary/package is a bonus for myself as I came straight from school, I live locally and all expenses are paid for with ease, it meets all costs exceptionally.
Voluntary events are always offered, I have undertaken a few already and these allow me to give something back to the company, as well as developing personal skills. Siemens offer a social community and allow you to become involved in hobbies with discounts and schemes such as the biking to work scheme, etc.
Yes
Because they have supported me exceptionally throughout the scheme so far, allowed me to achieve what I want and have progressed me as a person to work towards my career path.
Apply if you're interested in engineering, despite limited places, it is worth joining the company based on previous answers I have given. The experience benefits you within your working life and opportunities are always there.
