As a Wind Turbine Technician Apprentice, I assist within a team to either fix a fault on a wind turbine or service a wind turbine. When it comes to fixing a fault the typical day can change drastically. Some faults could be a simple hour long job where you would replace a part, however some days the job can take many hours or even many days to complete. No matter what the job is though, I am always learning something new or becoming more confident in jobs I have already done. Then once the normal work day is done, I'll have to go and check my emails to ensure that I'm completely up to date with all of the goings-on within the company, make sure that all of my expenses are done on time as well as prepare myself for the next working day.
Yes, I have gained a City and Guilds qualification, I have gained all of the GWO qualifications as well as electrical engineering qualifications Level 3 and 4
So far I have thoroughly enjoyed the programme. I have met great people whilst doing this, I've seen a new place where I would never have came before and doing a job that I love.
From the start of the apprenticeship I have been told numerous times by numerous managers that "I am the future of the company" and I think that if a company has that kind of mindset towards its young employees then the would do their best to help them. Which they have done, so I feel very valued by Siemens
Although this programme is very new to Siemens and they have tweaked about with it a lot, I feel tha the programme is very well structured.
When I was in college I received a lot of support. Whether it be the understanding of a mathematical formula or just a technique on filing a piece of metal into a desired shape, help was always there if it was needed.
Within Siemens you can go to literally anyone with a question whether it is small or a large question, it will be correctly answered.
Very well.
Whenever I'm not working I tend to brush up on my knowledge on wind turbines so that I can answer the questions in the portfolio so I can d my bes in the apprenticeship.
Yes
Because I feel that Siemens has a very good stance when it comes looking after their employees and this helps to create a happy workforce in which people will obviously enjoy their jobs.
Make sure that you have an engineering project which you can talk through clearly and confidently for the interviewer. Always be calm during the interview, they're people just like you.
