As a civil engineering apprentice I have mainly worked on building information models, I will receive changes proposed by senior civil engineers and asked to update the 3d model of that component along with the drawing to reflect the changes. I also work with comments received from clients. Once a month I have to coordinate a data drop, meaning I have to export models to a viewing software and upload them to a shared database so everyone involved in the project can see them.
I have become familiar with how a civil engineering project is run, involving issuing drawings at status' to receive comments and then issuing for construction. I have gained valuable skills in 3D modelling skills and how the models are used to progress the project and how valuable they are for reviewing designs.
I have really enjoyed becoming a member of the team I work in. I receive support from everyone I work with and am never afraid to ask questions.
I feel very valued by everyone I work for. I receive praise when I complete a task well and am supported to improve by everyone.
The programme could have been better structured to ensure I had experience in working in more than one role in the company. However this has allowed me to focus on the area I'm working in very well and become very competent in my role.
My college offer me the opportunity to ask for help via email whenever I need. However the learning resources could be improved, rather than having basic pdf sheets to read through then complete assignments based on them.
My employer are very good at supporting me to develop. They make an effort to complete reviews to make sure I am happy in my role and set objectives on how I can improve. They have offered to sponsor me through further qualifications.
I feel I am paid fairly in comparison to other apprentices, however more could be done to recognise the expense I pay to commute because of my living situation.
There are opportunities to involve myself in social and work based activities outside of my job role, regularly made clear in emails.

Pay attention to the task brief if asked to produce a piece of work. Prepare yourself for questions about the work you produce and be ready to explain what you did and why. Know exactly who you are interviewing with as you will be visiting a large office.
