My role is an apprentice engineer working at London bridge station. I under take tasks like producing paperwork for the workforce I.e. Task briefings, permits and drawings. I also set out using the total station and other equipment like laser levels. I am responsible for the health & safety of myself and everyone I work with. I attend various meetings that include health & safety walk rounds and team briefings on a weekly basis.
I have learnt many skills like communicating with many people from different roles and built up my confidence in that. I have undertaken various training like CAT & Genny training, harness training and manual handling.
I enjoy it very much as I work within a team and I enjoy seeing the completion of a task when looking over it myself.
I do feel valued as I am involved with the teams I have been working with.
I found the start of my programme was well supported and organised as I did a company induction and had many meetings with my apprenticeship manager. There were a couple site trips and outside activities like apprentices "get together". As I have been working for a few years, I have seen decreased supported which is understandable as I am progressing and more independent in my work and myself. More support though would be a big benefit throughout the programme.
As I attend 4 week blocks at college, I do receive a lot of support in my assignments as feedback can be given back within a week of handing it in. The tutors are helpful in the subjects they teach and provide a lot of input to understand and use in our assignments.
I feel I am supported in terms of the work I get and the progression of my learning as I get more work on my own. I have a progression review that records my objectives that I set with my line manager and discuss the progress I have made.
I find my salary meets my needs at this present time but as I am progressing through myself and my education, an increase would be a big advantage and confidence booster.
There are regular company events and activities and I am looking to do more of this.
Yes
Good company to be with as they do look after you and the salary is a competitive rate in my opinion. Gives you the chance to learn a variety of different skills.
Making sure the application process goes through smoothly, is to add as much detail as possible. Any experience in not just the construction industry is valuable to put down when applying for anything.
