Engineering technician apprentice - Detail design I am an apprentice detail designer working on huge projects with small or large teams. They are split into sections and I am currently in a placement with IT engineering. My day to day role consists of design work, solving problems, undertaking different tasks to a certain deadline. I interact with people within the company from in Portsmouth so as far as Glasgow.
I have developed a HNC and a HND in mechanical/electrical engineering. I have also nearly completed my NVQ level 3. I take part in loads of training courses which there are so many I can not list. I have learnt many valuable skills both professional and personal. My confidence and motivation have increased dramatically. There are many more skills I have learnt through out this apprenticeship.
The company have exceeded my expectations. All colleagues are great, the company culture is fantastic. I 100% enjoy my programme, maybe not my work so much however we switch round in placements which will fix this issue.
The company in a whole value apprentices a huge amount and certain placements make you feel extremely valuable too. You can be given some high work which certainly makes you feel valued.
The structure/organisation of the programme is good. Inductions/training/support/study is all on time and accurate. We have study every week, training when needed, support every week. The order of the 4 years is also well organised.
The support from the training provider is good, if there are any issues with our study or NVQ then there is always someone there to help. Especially our NVQ as that is run through our manager within the company.
We receive 100% support from our training provider. We are only a call away from any issues. We have support meeting set each week for anyone in the apprenticeship to walk in with any issues.
The salary of the apprenticeship exceeds my expectations. Being so young on so much money is always a bonus. The best apprenticeship so far when it comes to salary. Living cost, travel cost, daily cost is never a struggle!
The company always advertise for apprentices to get involved in a wide range of opportunities. There are always company events/activities in which we are involved in. There are voluntary things in which you can be involved in such as mentoring within local schools. There are events/classes/sports you can get involved in around the company.
Yes
I would recommend BAE Systems because it is a well structured apprenticeship. The opportunities that arise are brilliant, the qualifications you get out of the company are brilliant too with no education cost. The salary is great even though it doesn't matter. The company is also great to work for and there are many jobs available which could be your end role/life time job.
I would not apply if you are not going to take the job seriously, you should have the mind set to succeed and become something within the company. I would search about the company before applying or even before your interview! You should always try your hardest within the apprenticeship as it could back fire in the long run.
