I work in Pension Operations as an Operations Apprentice. I have to take calls from the public. financial advisors and our clients. I advise them on key specifics within their plan such as charges and annual allowance. I am to shadow different departments in my allocated 20% time.
Within this programme I am studying towards my Investment Operations Certificate and my NVQ in Providing Financial Services in my first year. From this I can then develop my knowledge further and pick up another qualification. Fidelity provide you with working skills training such as personal development, how to set goals and drive your career. I have learnt a lot about pensions and how the finance industry is working.
Fidelity is a great company to work for, everyone is really friendly and always willing to help. The team I work for are so open, and all help each other with any problems they have. My manager is approachable and easy to talk to. Even though fidelity is a corporate company , it has a relaxed friendly atmosphere throughout. I enjoy the programme Fidelity has given me and it has met my expectations
I feel appreciated by my manager and co-workers. There are regular awards through out the company and department. You can win vouchers and a certificate. I am able to involved in a variety of projects and raise my voice. Fidelity is open to knew ideas and encourages their employees to speak up.
The Induction was a week long and we learnt about trading, how to use excel and about the company. I have a tutor who will come in once and month and assign me tasks to complete. I get 20% time allocated where I can study, shadow or take on extra projects. I have regular meetings with my manager and the apprentice co-ordinator. Tasks are delegated well within my team, we have different levels for our capabilities and what tasks we can deal with.
Currently there isn't a training provider for the Investment Operations Certificate however they are going to be booking us onto some courses. We have a local collage who comes in once a month for our NVQ in providing financial services. They have provided me with guidance on how to pass my assignments and are also on hand to contact if they are off sight.
I have received a lot of support from my HR team, they have provided me with guidance on how to develop within my career. There is an online portal where I can access information about the company.
My salary is generous for an apprentice. It meets both my living, social and daily costs. I have to commute over 80 miles a day to get to and from work so it also covers the location costs.
Within the apprenticeship program you can visit other schools and pitch about fidelity. I also attend the Excel Careers event where I met a range of young people from different backgrounds. There is a lunch time boot camp you can get involved in. My team and the apprenticeship team hold regular socials.

It is such a great company to work for. They offer a good programme and you are able to access all the benefits of a normal employee. You get treated fairly through out the company
I would try to stand out, think about what makes you different. My online application included my skills and how I thought it would help relate to the programme and the company.
