My title at Deloitte is Technology Consulting analyst. In Technology Consulting we are in charge of implementing IT strategies for our clients. I sit in Analytics and Information Management and we deal with businesses that have data problems and doing our best to find a solution that is adequate.
I completed GCSE IT, however I still only had a basic understanding of using the MS Suite. Since being at the firm, my basic technology skills e.g. Excel and PowerPoint has significantly improved. I have also attended internal training courses which are specific to my area.
The people is what makes my programme highly enjoyable. Not going to university I was afraid I would miss out on the social aspect, however, I quickly realised that all the new school leavers were in a similar boat and we constantly make an effort to see each other outside of the hustle and bustle of working life!
When my manager, team mates or even the client asks for me specifically to complete a task for them I try to do it to the best of my ability. This makes me feel valued and appreciated.
When I first joined there was a month induction and training period before we went onto our first project. This really aided me as it allowed me to settle in, meet new people and gather a wider perspective of the firm. Our studying has been very organised, allowing us to have study days off and webinars with tutors. The support system at Deloitte is great; each BrightStart has a Dean, Coach and a Buddy if I have any concerns.
We receive a tutor and webinars with our tutors where we can go over any of our concerns. There are a lot of materials online as well as question banks from which we can revise from. BPP (our training provider) are also very efficient in replying to emails which is really helpful.
Deloitte offer a Dean, Buddy and a Coach to all the BrightStarts. These are people within our specific departments who are understanding of any struggles we may be facing and try and provide as much advice and help where they can.
I live at home so much of my salary meets my costs. The only costs I have to cover is food, travel and any socials I decide to attend. Overall, I have not had an issue with costs.
We have weekly socials in my department which is much needed! I also volunteer to take part in recruitment events sometimes on the weekend. There are many gyms in close proximity to the office which is always useful..
Yes
The opportunities to grow within Deloitte are endless and I definitely think it's a great alternative to university if you are clueless about what career path you want to pursue.
Be confident and try to talk to as many people as you can during the induction. Many of your peers are actually just as nervous as yourself, so try to get involved and enjoy the ride!
