I joined in September 2016 and am currently an Assistant Associate in audit. Most of the time I'm out at the client site performing with a team of people. I perform testing on basic balances such as cash and accruals. I really enjoy my work! Most of my time is spent selecting samples, tracing them through to invoices and bank statements and talking to the client.
I have learned so much already and I've only been here 6 months. For the first few weeks we had a lot training. It was good because it gave us the skills we needed, before we went to the client site. I have also been to college to study for my first 2 professional exams (ACA - Accounting and Assurance) before Christmas. Before I started I had no experience with audit or accounting and now I can quite confidently perform tasks alone. I am also completing my Apprentice Qualifications with BPP.
I really enjoy my programme and I believe its the best thing I could have done. I have learnt so much in such a short space of time and I get more and more confident everyday. The people I work with are very kind and always happy to help me with my work. There are 80 other BrightStarts in the London office so I have plenty of new friends. The social events organised also allow me to meet lots of other people throughout the firm.
I feel very valued by Deloitte. I can see how my work really contributes to an audit as a whole and I am an essential part of the teams I work in. Deloitte makes a clear effort to ensure I am happy and also actively addresses any problems I have. My managers always give me feedback on my work, allowing me to improve,
My programme is very well structured. There is a clear timeline of what happens when for the 4 years. My qualifications (both ACA and apprentice) are done in conjunction with BPP. They have been really supportive as I have been moving through the programme. If I email with any problems or questions I usually get a reply the same day. There have also been lots of opportunities for me to meet older BrightStarts and learn from their experiences.
My qualifications (both ACA and apprentice) are done in conjunction with BPP. They have been really supportive as I have been moving through the programme. If I email with any problems or questions I usually get a reply the same day. The tutors are really good and are usually happy to give you additional help if you need it. There are lots of BPP created resources to help you through the exams as well. I like going to college because it means I get to meet up with other BrightStarts from different offices or departments.
Deloitte give me a lot of support. I have an appraiser who I can usually go to if I have any general questions as well as a buddy which I was assigned when I got my place. There are also the exam managers who I go to if I have any exam related questions. I think there are endless support networks available but I have been lucky enough not to have had to use them yet.
The salary is very generous however living in London is expensive. My main cost is rent but I am lucky enough to be able to walk to work or most client sites. Deloitte run lots of free social evens/ drinks so this helps with the cost of living as well. If I am having to travel to a client site this can be charged back.
Deloitte run lots of events. My main advice would be to take advantage of them. When I'm not working I like to hang out with other BrightStarts or the graduates in my intake. Often my old friends from school will come and visit me because London it a good weekend away.

Deloitte is a fantastic place to work. The people are helpful and generally fun to be around. Its such as large firm that you're bound to find a few people to get on with. I had places at a few firms but chose Deloitte because of the people I met. That's what make sit special - the people.
Believe in yourself - you've got this :)
