Assistant Associate Auditor. I test balances and accounts that are disclosed in the financial statements of FTSE listed companies to ensure they comply with regulations and are not fraudulent.
Whilst at college I have already furthered my knowledge of accountancy and the regulatory standards. I have been on several training courses including a week-long induction and a separate week-long work simulation. These have helped me understand my role and what is expected of me.
I have had the pleasure to work with a number of different people on various jobs in my short time here. The clients I work with are all different and this helps keep the job exciting and refreshing.
I feel that I have a lot of responsibility to do my own work. I am given support and feedback both during and after an engagement to help me develop and improve. I have had support with things outside of work such as being able to leave earlier to work on the train as I have a long commute etc.
The programme is very well organised. I have had numerous training sessions, college time scheduled around my work and regular meetings with an appraiser to discuss work and studies. The only thing lacking is I was not given an exam timetable until I raised a query about exams, and I feel this was an oversight.
The training I receive is quite intensive. It often involves a 4 day in class study period and then 2-4 weeks later an exam. I am given a lot of contacts and resources to help me study/revise in the run up to exams and feel well supported and equipped to do them.
I have raised an issue with HR regarding personal circumstances. They were very forthcoming with the support available within the firm and arranging help outside as well. My schedule was moved around to suit me better and my location and situation is considered when assigning me to jobs.
I was offered a loan to help cover the cost of my season ticket to travel to and from work. This is interest free and comes out of my monthly salary. I earn enough that I can afford to live comfortably and save for a deposit on a house. I enjoy social activities on the weekend and so far do not consider money a barrier to things.
There are regular social events organised, in particular around the time of joining that help you to integrate quickly into the firm. We are encouraged to search our internal social media "Yammer" for our interests and there is usually a social group for everything. We are also in the process of trying to set up a football team for a summer league.
Yes
I am loving the work I do. I feel like what I does matters in the wider picture of what "Deloitte" does. This is a great opportunity to work and learn, and I have had no issues with the support I have received. In fact it has been better than I expected it to be.
Relax. The assessment centres and online tests are designed to be passable, not to trick you. The interviews are relaxed too. My interviewers were friendly and it felt like a chat in parts as much as an interview. Don't feel the need to exaggerate either. Not every candidate will have built homes for the poor in Africa, etc. Be open and honest about your experiences and you will be fine.
