Normally on a day to day basis I manage the core team, making sure we are on track for meeting deadlines. I will be the client facing team member ensuring all our queries are answered and I will develop good client relations so that they are more likely to send us information quickly.
I have learnt countless new skills such as team leading, deeper understanding of technical accounting, learnt more from the ACA exams (FAR and AA) which have key information I can apply to this job each day. We also have detailed courses on the latest methodology updates from Deloitte which are extremely helpful.
I enjoy working with different people each day and learning new things, whether that be easy things or challenging things. I enjoy a challenge so I will put myself out there and put myself in what I find uncomfortable situations so that I learn to be comfortable in as many different types of situations as possible.
I don't feel valued, as there are very high expectations, sometimes I can't meet those expectations but I try my best. I don't get recognition for trying my best but I'm happy knowing I tried my best even if others don't realise it. I get involved in a huge range of projects from Audit to Assurance engagements.
The induction was very well organised as it allowed us to meet all the other intake graduates and brightstarts. We have constant training courses run by Deloitte which allow us to learn new things and develop our understanding of how things should be improved. There is also a support hotline we can call and we have a mentor to contact should we need help.
I don't receive much help from my training provider. But when I pressure them and chase them then they will offer support and notify me of key dates I should be aware of. The support is not very accessible but if you need any support you can get support.
I receive a lot of support, the team environment allows for any question to be asked and someone will know the answer to it or at least will know where to find it out. We do have an HR team who we can contact if we have queries about our programme or potential job opportunities in different areas of Deloitte.
My living costs are next to nil, but I travel a lot and love food. I play polo, piano and I row so my main outgoings are costs associated with lessons for those three activities. I live in London but my salary allows for me to do anything I wish to.
There are occasional events outside of work such as Christmas Parties, summer parties and various events such as Sailing weekends. I am part of the Deloitte polo club so we have group lessons whenever so we can improve our game and progress. There are language courses that run however I am no good at languages.
Yes
The environment is extremely rewarding and we have lots of support, lots of out of work events and clubs. The teams are always friendly and will help you answer queries even if you don't know the answer. The ability to travel around for work is also a huge bonus.
Make sure you are clear and concise when creating your application. Prepare in advance for your interview and try to stand out from the crowd but mentioning things or considering things that everyone else won't even think of considering. Think outside the box and make sure you have plenty of experience.
