  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is an Assistant associate. My day to day role differs from job to job but as a summary I support all levels of colleagues ranging from people at the same level as myself, managers, directors to partner on audit engagements. I also communicate with client on areas of testing

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Whilst doing my ACA qualification I am half way through the first level and have refreshed my knowledge on some basic accounting skills. Whilst out at work on the job I have developed my communication through verbal and written, understanding different clients needs and the way they are, diluting down complex phrases so anyone could understand without any accounting knowledge

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the ACA qualification and the potential it sets my career up for. I also enjoy the investigative work I do and enjoy working with different people in different places all the time. However I do not enjoy the apprteiceship element. To much is expected when work commitment is so high

    4/10

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Deloitte?
  • How valued I feel varies from job to job. On some jobs where the team is small you can be given quite a lot of responsibility and be involved in some serious aspects such as planning and close meetings. But on bigger jobs where there is a lot more going on when you are first starting out those opportunities don’t seem to be as present thus feeling less valued and end up just picking up the jobs that no one really wants

    5/10

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The work needed as part of the apprenticeship is unrealistic with the level of work commitment expected. It is not structured enough to be expected to be taken seriously. No time is given to complete the reflective statements which if done properly take a lot of time. They are of no benefit either

    4/10

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • No where near enough support is provided as promised. When at college it is a lot easier to get the support for the exams but in terms of the reflective statements that are expected to be completed there is no one to go to. Feedback is given on work but that means doing work x2 just to get some help on it

    3/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a great pool of knowledge at Deloitte ready for anyone to dip into at any time. Everyone no matter what level they are at are willing to help you on anything. Deloitte can be quite complex and confusing with so many things to remember but everyone uses and aids each other in all areas so gives a great sense of belonging

    7/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel I am underpaid, at 24 I have been forced to move back home, unable to pay rent. Because of the cost of working away, travel, wear and tear, social ect my domestic income has decreased dramatically since starting the role. Its hard to work so hard and all the time plus study to be paid so little.

    1/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I am sure that there are plenty of opportunities, but not as easily accessible as I expected. I enjoy playing netball but at my office there currently is not a team going and not enough people interested to start one. Outside of sports though there are are plenty of opportunities to develop personal growth and other interests such as volunteering

    6/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is an amazing place to work and be a part of. Everyone is friendly and approachable, there is a big pool of knowledge for you to pick at. Endless opportunity and potential on a career and personal front. Deloitte are a well known “brand” in accounting and what you see doesn’t even scratch the surface

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Be passionate and genuine on the reasons you are applying to work at Deloitte, whether its long term or short term (as in you only plan to do your qualification and then leave) just be honest. Do not be shy about boasting about your abilities and what you could bring to a team and Deloitte.
