My job title is assistant relationship manager. My job is to assist the relationship manager in looking after his portfolio of customers. My daily tasks include taking phone calls from customers and dealing with queries, researching new potential customers for the RM.
I am currently studying a professional bankers certificate. I have also developed my personal skills such as communication and confidence in speaking to customers via telephone. We often have internal training sessions to help us learn more about the bank functions and learn new skills.
The office I work in has a great team culture. We are only small in numbers in this particular office, so everyone knows each other and gets on together. We have been on several events together, and morale in the office is really high.
I do feel valued within my team. If I do a task for a member of staff within the office or from another office, they often thank me and say how much they appreciate the help. I have been involved in projects such as bringing in a new customer, right from the original research of the company all the way through to helping open the new account.
The programme is really well structured. The induction was a day event where they had all the apprentices together, so it made it less daunting. We have regular training sessions with the other apprentices covering a range of subjects and talks on the different roles within the bank. Every month I have a meeting with my line manager to discuss progress and any support needs I have
I haven't been on it too long, but so far ive had a phone call with my assessor and have another one booked in. These calls will be every month and I also have an email address for any queries I have. My tutor is really helpful. After every live session we do, he always stays behind for 15 minutes to answer any questions and give us advice.
I receive a great deal of support from my employer. Mainly from my colleagues who are always on hand to explain anything im unsure of. and giving me different things that will challenge me to develop my knowledge. They make it seem like they're genuinely interested in my development and are keen to help me. I feel I can go to them for help and not feel like im bothering them or being a nuisance.
My salary exceeds my expectations. I only live a short distance from work so I walk into work. There are a lot of benefits that come with the salary through RBS elect so I can put more towards my pension or a bike with the bike to work scheme.
There are lots of events and opportunities outside of work. Through work, they have encouraged me to join the Young Bankers Association, and they regularly have networking events. We also get invited to local awards ceremonies and other events and we are encouraged to attend where possible.
Yes
The atmosphere is great and its a really friendly place to work. Also, there are lots of opportunities and everyone is dedicated to helping you develop your skills and help you to succeed. Its a great place to start/make a career.
My advice would be to be prepared. The application is a long process and can take a lot of time. If you're lucky enough to get through to a phone and/or face to face interview, then make sure you're passionate about a career within the bank. In the face to face interview you are required to do a bit of a role play which can be quite awkward/scary if you've never done something like that before, so practice role plays.
