Credit Risk Apprentice in Mortgage Lending unit, day to day role is as an Underwriter on applications for personal customers requesting mortgages.
i have learnt so much more about mortgages - i didnt really know much before, i knew the basics, that it was a loan on a property. i have learnt the different products and types available. i have also developed my organisational skills, having to be on time for work and arrange travel (train, bus etc) ive also learnt to organise my equipment (having a pen and paper) organising your time in a calender etc. i have also learnt to be more profesional and confident, talking to collegues over email and face to face has given me a lot more confidence and has taught me how to communicate professionally.
i have mostly enjoyed learning the job role, and learning while actually doing the role. it has made me pick up the basics of the role a lot faster by actually doing it on a day to day basis, rather than being at University or College where you sit and read a book about a subject. i have really enjoyed learning the job as i am phisically doing it.
RBS has given me all the facilities i need in order to complete my apprenticeship. everyone has made me feel so welcome and been extremely friendly. questions are encouraged and i hae never felt like i couldnt ask someone if i was confused or stuck. The managers are extremely helpful to, having weekly meetings to catch up and make sure everything is going well and how i a finding everything so far.
The BPP (trainign provider) has been organsied with monthly review calls from my skills assessor where i can freely ask any questions or say and concerns i have. they have also been organsied in sending text books and setting me up on their online platform.
i recieve monthly review calls with my skills assessor, where i can ask any questions or ask for help with anything i do not understand. i have also been given all the appropriate email addresses so i can email anyone from BPP to ask any questions.
i recieve a lot of support, with weekly meetings with my manager to talk through the apprenticehsip and discuss anything that might not be working. i also know i could ask anyone (collegues, managers) for help on anything and i would recieve it.
my salary is above and beyond what i expected when i applied for the apprenticeship. i am more than happy with what i am paid.
there are lots of activities to be involved with, including groups of employess who get together who have a similar interest. for example there is an apprenticehsip and graduate group in RBS. I have not yet joined one as i am still just getting to grips with my apprenticeship, but i intend to join one when i feel comfortable enough in my role. i also attended the staff christmas party this year at a resaurant near work. this was good fun as it allowed me to get to know all the people on my team.
Yes
it is an amaxing opportunity, and a great place to work. you are given maximum support and everyone is welcoming and willing to help.
dont be afraid to ask questions, as its the best way to learn. be confident and be youself, you wouldnt have got the role if you werent good enough to do it, so be confident in that and do your best.
