My role has been very generic as I have been completing placements in different areas of Real Estate Finance. It usually involves supporting the Relationship Managers and talking to customers and calculating different aspects of lending.
I have developed on my communication skills as my role involves talking to a wide range of people, from internal managers and colleagues to support departments to external customers. This has allowed me to become more confident in my people skills. I have had various training which has helped my analytical skills and real estate knowledge.
I enjoy my programme as I find the department I am based in interesting and relevant so it is easy to relate as I watch the markets change. The team I am based with are very friendly and helpful. They always find time to support me and to develop my learning.
There is internal recognition from Managers but it is usually based from my office only. I feel like I am valued within the team as I always offer to help all the managers. There isn't so much appreciation and acknowledgement from higher up.
I believe my programme is only structured well as my Manager is very organised and has had a plan set out for me. I do not believe other Apprentices have had that opportunity. Me and my manager have actively created a plan of our own to maximise my productivity. the actual studying and coursework side to the apprenticeship is not very structured.
my tutor goes through the taskbooks with me on a monthly basis which is that I have asked for as I believe this would help me. it is hard to get a hold of my tutor as she is very busy with our students too. her general attitude is great and I can see she always tries to help me as much as possible but availability is limited.
A lot of support. My manager has a great attitude in wanting me to be successful and pushing me to fulfil my potential. He always makes time to support me even at the last minute.
It does meet my costs ok - but I feel as an RBS apprentice, being a part of the coverage team, my salary should be higher as I am involved in the "harder" sider and I do not think the salary is reflective of this. Also, being based in London, costs for travel and daily costs are very high which I just about meet.
Not many - I have been involved in volunteering for the banks education program which I have gone out to schools but not much is promoted. There is no gyms in the offices (Even though they are big offices), nor is there canteens.
Yes
I would recommend as I have had a good experience with my Manager being very proactive. It also opens your eyes as to what other departments there are in Banks and the wide range. Its a good opportunity to get a flavour of different areas too.
Always be prepared, plan for everything from journeys to meetings. Be proactive in thinking about your next steps with your career. Take all opportunities that are given to you and always shout for help instead of sitting there being stuck.
