Job Title: Auditor Daily task: Daily tasks vary hugely depending on 2 main factors: the sector you're based in and what sort of things you'd like to test. Interactions: The exposure you receive is really good from the first day you will see directors and partners, then out on client site you will meet a whole range of staff from CFO's and FD's to warehouse operators.
Best skill learnt: Data Analysis; this is pivotal to the role and you learn lots about how different companies run and how this feeds into figures that end up in the statutory accounts.
The programme is really good because in the top 4 firms you will almost always join with a 'year group' which is a bit similar to school but you are surrounded by people your own age and work with these people all the time so build really good friendships.
As Deloitte is such a large firm you will struggle to gain exposure to everyone as would be expected but, those around you who you report to ad work with genuinely want you to do the best you can and are massively supportive
The programme has a really good structure and everyone knows where the stand and managers will almost always let you leave at a reasonable time so that you can get home and study for exams.
BPP provide the the programme and give every individual an appraiser and college teachers always want everyone to pass.
There are two people assigned to instantly support you in your role at Deloitte and to help you in exams, this is your 'buddy' who will be a second year and then you will get an appraiser who is a manager, both these people will support you whenever you need help.
The salary is very competitive and was almost £3k higher than that offered by a rival firm, in audit there is a lot of travel and away jobs, so staying in hotels is not uncommon, however whenever away and travelling all costs are covered.
There is lots of socials on one every 2-3 weeks, and Deloitte have a volunteering programme were by the company will pay you for your time but you can help out at a a school or local project.
Yes
The experience and amount of opportunities which Deloitte and the ACA open the door to are staggering, you find that you also build an incredibly strong network and relationship within Deloitte and clients
There are a few steps to the application process, and there are a lot of exams/tests, these shouldn't put you off as they are incredibly useful in the long run, at the time they seem strange however once you start the job they are very good. One of the most important things is to not be nervous when at the assessment days and to be yourself.
