  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a daily basis I will perform checks on Storage Filers, process engineer access requests, converse with users regarding their storage space and data and action storage requests, uplifts, updates etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned how to find information and execute commands with NetApp ONTAP OS and UNIX. I have also learned how to professionally approach employees within the bank, whether they are junior or senior level.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy coming into work and knowing that there is always something new to do each day. I have been placed in an excellent team, all of which I get on with and receive a lot of support from my managers.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I feel very valued. As soon as I joined the team my vendor training was being planned and although I was given a lot of theory information to begin with (which isn't the most thrilling) it helped me in the long run to understand how everything fits together within Storage. Towards the latter end of my first year I was given projects to be in charge which shows to me that they have trust in what I do.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel it is adequately planned. There was some information I feel that could of been given sooner at the beginning of the induction, such as team and location. This would of provided me with enough time to plan how I would get to work and give me some time to research rather going in blindly.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My QA assessor is very good at explaining assessments what is required. However, he can be difficult to get in contact with via email.

    7/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all the support I need from My Line Managers and colleagues. I am able to ask questions without fear of ridicule or embarrassment. It's always better to ask the questions before making a mistake due to ignorance.

    10/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It covers the cost of ensuring and financing a car as well as the rest of my responsibilities. However I was surprised to find out there was a difference between Apprenticeship and Graduate pay, even though the level of experience is the same.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I like how RBS has an 'inclusive' atmosphere where employees are encouraged to go to Technology conferences and social events. I was able to get time off from my work to participate in RBS' Sport Relief 10KM run around the Headquarters.

    10/10

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • RBS is a great place to work and there is support from the Line Managers to progress and develop your career.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Just go for it. I didn't believe that I would be accepted as a 23 year old when I was looking at the Apprenticeship description yet here I am. If you do go to the interview stage be honest and confident, do your research into the field you want to go into and into the history of the company. All these things won't hurt your chances.
