My role is a software engineer. I am involved in projects such as creating apps and websites for departmets. I am responsible for the upkeep of websites and take part in meetings with senior members getting requirements for new projects.
I have learnt how to program in three new programming languages. I am currently working towards a degree in software engineering and I am qualified in all mandated training provided by the business.
I enjoy my programme massively. I work in a great team on my current placement and the other software apprentices are great friends. The work ethic is very strong and is encouraging. The programme is surpassing my expectations.
I feel valued by my manager and that I am a crucial part of the team. From an external point I feel valued by people outside of the business for my line of work. I am included in the tasks and projects to the full extent and my opinion is always valued.
The programme strucutre is good with the placement layout. It is nice having universty two days a week and work 3 days a week. It splits the wwek up nicely.
The university offer plenty of support in forms of extra classes or tutorial sessions. For our NVQ we are given 2 week reviews as well as larger 12 week reviews to check our progress and support is given if we find any issues.
My manager provides a lot of support and guidance if I am unsure with any work. I don't get much support from HR and they were difficult to deal with when first starting. Currently however if I have an issue a phone call to HR will solve it.
The salary is more than sufficient. It covers my travel costs and fuel comfortably as well as living costs for essentials. The salary allows for socialising as well as savings to be made
There are plenty of oppurtunities. BAE Systems has several clubs for like minded people. Charity is a big factor with annual events being held to raise money. There are also sports teams for football, cricket and rugby.
Yes
It is the best oppurtunity I have been given and it is a very supportive company. It changes you as a person for the better and allows you to make decisions which have an impact on deliveries and oter people giving you a large respinsibility.
Don't feel like you aren't good enough to get onto the scheme. Make sure you put yourself out there and do something to stand out from the crowd. Do research on the business as a keen knowledgable employee is very desireable!
