I am working on the Commercial Change Team within the Post Office account, taking minutes for internal change boards and customer meetings, communicating with the customer and colleagues in order to progress commercial documents within the contracted time.
I have had to complete many training courses starting my job here, learning about Fujitsu as a company, completing the induction to the Post Office Account (enabling me to learn more about the customer and also about the role each team plays on our account), and have also attended a day training course in Sense and Respond. My computer skills have also improved dramatically through everyday use of Excel and databases.
I am enjoying my programme, I enjoy the work I do in my day to day role and also enjoy the learning I do towards my qualification. I have settled in really well with my team and get on very well with all other colleagues on our account too.
I do feel valued by my team and others on the account, having received my feedback to go towards my appraisal I feel like my colleagues value and appreciate what I do.
The programme here is well structured, after joining Fujitsu I had an apprentice induction and then later had a Post Office Account induction, along with this I had to complete a number of online training courses. I have monthly 1-2-1 with my line manager and my tutor also and have regular conversations with my assignment manager to see how I am getting on.
I have monthly meetings with my training provider, the sessions I have with her go very well and I feel they are productive, however I often have to chase her up to send me the work she said she would send over. Often if I email with any questions I just receive an Out of Office response and rarely get an actual response to my email. I do enjoy my course and enjoy my meetings with my tutor, however I would like the workload to increase slightly.
I receive a lot of support from my employer, I have monthly meetings with my line manager who asks me how my job role is going and my qualification. I have regular conversations similar to this with my assignment manager also - he also supports me with my qualification and allows me to take time out from doing my everyday role to complete assignments for my qualification.
I understand that I get paid significantly more than apprentices at different companies, however I still do not feel that my salary does not meet my living costs. Living close by and still living at home I don't pay for rent and have little travel costs, however still struggle often. My aim was to carry on with my qualifications and save up to move out, however this is unlikely to be possible with this salary so will either have to continue living at home for another 5 years or so or just not continue with my qualifications and find an appropriate role with a salary that meets my needs.
I have a few opportunities outside of work, I have a quarterly meet up with my team of other apprentices which is a lot of fun, have lots of opportunities within the company to volunteer within the community. The location of the office is great, its only 5 minutes from my house and means I can continue to go to my local gym and continue with other activities I was doing before starting at Fujitsu.
Yes
I would recommend Fujitsu to a friend - especially to complete an apprenticeship as you gain a lot of support from managers, everyone is really friendly and you are also given the opportunity to move within job roles till you find something that suits you.
At the interview I would say be confident and friendly, also do a lot of research into the company - many people work on accounts here and know little about the company as a whole, coming up with interesting facts about the company shows you are interested and done your research. It's also really easy to do, there is a timeline on the Fujitsu website which gives brief explanations of key things Fujitsu has done. Joining the company is pretty much the same, be confident and friendly as everyone else will be to you. It can be quite daunting starting at a new company so make friends - this was you always have people you can ask for help and talk to! Complete the online learning as early as possible - you will get a feel and understanding for the company and it really helps.
