  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is working in the Data Centre. I check access and take deliveries along with taking on other jobs to help keep everything running smoothly. Working closely with my team ensures that I complete daily tasks such as walk arounds. Walkarounds help to ensure that the Data Halls are clean and tidy and that everything is functioning correctly and as it should be.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new things. My general role experience has increased with me gaining knowledge on different things from cooling to power to other Data Centre related activities. My communication skills have developed well since I joined the RBS. This helps me to communicate with others, not just in my team but in other departments that may or may not have anything to do with Data Centre Management (DCM).

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I feel valued both as an employee of RBS and as a member of my team in Data Centre Management. Feeling this way helps me to develop and perform better as an individual which therefore enables me to complete my work to a higher standard. I feel like the work I produce is appreciated which in turns causes the standard of my work to rise in quality.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well structured with enough training and support to help you through if needs be. The course is organised and well structured. It offers an ample amount of courses for people to attend which therefore in my eyes increases the quality of the students progressing. The tutors for the courses provided by QA & RBS are of a high standard and are always contactable.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive enough to get me through my courses. I am assisted if I have questions or need help with something. I receive enough support to complete my work to a high enough standard. The tutors/mentors are always available to contact and are easy to contact meaning getting in touch with them about issues is very simple and easy to do.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I receive from my employer is excellent. If any questions need answering they are the people I go to first. They are simple to get a hold of and easy to understand. They understand 'apprentice' questions and issues which is good for me as If I require help I know I can get it from the RBS.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It meets it brilliantly. I could not ask for better at my age. For the work that I complete/carry out the salary/package is great and like I said I could not ask for better at my age. It is a good motivation for me to work harder as I know it is all worth it. The RBS provides apprentices with a good salary and therefore motivate them more.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Opportunities outside of work vary I suppose on what your interested on. I spend my time working on websites, going to the gym or playing Airsoft (Different Sites located around Edinburgh and the UK). These activities help me to evenly split my time and allow me to relax when at work and out of work. The RBS offer company events from time to time which I attend as it is a good way to network.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great place to work with great people. Everything is well structured and is able to run efficiently. They are organised and understand apprenticeships therefore making them a good candidate for a recommendation. They offer out of and in work activities for staff to ensure that employee's are always entertained and enjoying what they do.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Be calm , take your time and focus on what you want. If you want something bad enough then work for it. RBS is not difficult although it seems daunting.
