As an apprentice within real estate I have the job of supporting the RM's and ARM's with specialist tasks within the REF division such as PFG models etc.
I have learnt new specialist terms and skills and how to put them into practice, as stated above. I have had plenty of opportunities to do internal shadowing of different roles in order to gain experience.
I enjoy the programme to a large extent as my team are all great and were very welcoming at the start. Sometimes my workflow isn't as full as I would like it to be, but that's all part of the learning curve.
I feel very valued by RBS at times, as I often receive praise from managers for work I have done whether that be formal or informal. I have been involved in quite a few deals within our team also.
The programme was very organised to begin with in terms of induction etc. but I had a lot of problems accessing the internal systems and that was a little frustrating.
The support from my training provider is very good as I often have live webinars every 2 weeks in order to help with my studies and have contact with my assessor on a regular basis.
I receive a lot of support from my employer as the team are very flexible and allow me to focus on my studying when I need to for example allowing me to view my webinars and study from home when I need to.
The salary is very rewarding in relation to my costs and has made a huge difference to the things I can now do, with the job being a short train journey from my home this is also an advantage.
There are a lot of opportunities outside the office that I am able to do, as stated previously the opportunity to gain experience in other roles through shadowing, in different locations such as Manchester all help with career development.
Yes
All the teams I have currently worked with have been great and supportive, the salary is very rewarding for an apprentice, there are lots of opportunities available.
When applying make sure you know your stuff about the bank, and ask as much as possible about the role you will be taking up as this is what I was unsure about for a while. If you do get the job take every opportunity offered to you and don't be afraid to ask for help, also don't be too nervous for the interview as the interviewer will most likely become your line manage, if you get the job.
