My apprenticeship takes me round the many different departs of the engine build area. This rotation scheme allows for me to gain exposure to building and servicing motorsport engines. Currently my work focuses around motorsport electronics.
since joining the scheme over two years ago I have learnt and developed many different skills. These have not only been through academic learning but also hand on experience in the work place. internal and external training opptunites have widened my understanding of the industry.
This programme has brought many engineering challenges which have negotiated. These challenges have allowed me to stretch my understanding and skills. The projects and departments I have been part of have all been enjoyable and there has always been a high display of teamwork throughout.
I feel that the responsibility's given to me have moderate to high importance. This showing that the company trust my actions and decision making. I therefore feel valued knowing that this level of trust is behind me.
The scheme is very well structured with clear targets and review dates. The program has a clear rotation plan which is clear and easy to follow. the structure of employees allows you to gain help and advice easily if needed.
Our training provider is very good. Monthly meetings are set where targets and agreed deadlines are outlined. The training provider is always responsive to questions and queries sent to them even when off site.
The support form internal sources is very good. Again clear targets and agreements are set, this enables you to have clear goals for your everyday work. Support for further education is great, this is arranged through the HR system.
The package offered by HPP is good, however the location it is situated in means that housing is expensive. However when you factor in the expenditure of education paid by the company then the overall salary and benefits are very good.
Opportunities related to HPP outside of work hours are very limited. However there are many opptunites which can be undertaken to further improve your knowledge and skills, such as training courses or intercompany relations.
Yes
This opportunity is not one to be missed. Working at the peek of the industry is the best way to learn. The opptunites for skill development and education are second to none when supported by HPP. Working along side world class engineers gives you knowledge you may not learn anywhere else.
When applying for a position at HPP I would recommend that you are confident with general process of motorsport and you have a high drive for success.
