Majority of my roles at CGI have been software development, this involved writing and testing code, having daily stand up calls, designs and implementation of new features. I very much enjoy what I do.
I've learnt many new skills as a developer, going onto new projects often brings the opportunity to work on new technologies and develop new skills. For example I've recently got into Angular JS and Node JS which I've found very powerful languages. I've had the opportunity to work with moderately new technologies such as Raspberry Pi's.
I enjoy my programme very much, I'm able to work remotely when it suits but also have the opportunity to travel to places such as Bridgend and London quite often, there is always an opportunity to learn new things which is very important to me.
I feel valued by CGI, theres been newsletters internally going round regarding the project I'm working on so it's nice to see hard work become noticed within the company.
The Apprenticeship programme was well organised, we had relevant training blocks to reinforce our day to day jobs, being a developer it was very relevant to what I was doing this made learning a lot easier.
During my apprenticeship we had regular visits from our QA Assessor, they were competent in the sense that any problems raised would be listened to, my assessor was a good at guidance with any issues I had.
Career Managers are available to give you the best advice for what you want to do with your career, there isn't a big issue with the accessibility of support although it can sometimes be months without hearing from your career manager.
Salary was fine for me, travel & living costs are low so there is not an issue with the salary I'm being paid. If I was travelling further and wasn't living at home then I'd probably be giving a different score.
Yes, theres social clubs and project socials available and plenty of benefits available through member discount scheme.
Yes
CGI is a good company and it's clear they care about their employees, I enjoy working for them and love the work I'm doing at the moment. The opportunities are there you just need to know what you want.
Research the company and know what area you want to get into, have a good idea on the role and technologies you want to be involved in and make sure your enthusiasm for that shows.
