I am an apprentice assembly technician which within my 3 years at HPP I will rotate around the departments within build and get involved in all aspects of the building of the Formula 1 engines.
I have both developed my existing skills and also learnt a lot of mew skills to benefit me in my time here in my day to day role. I a, also gaining relevant and recognised qualifications alongside my job which will help build my knowledge to move on to a full-time job role at the end of my apprenticeship.
I really enjoy the programme I am on as it gives me a good level of hands on experience at HPP as part of a brilliant team. But I still have time to gain the needed qualifications alongside this. The programme has succeeded my expectations.
I feel like a truly valued member of the team at HPP. I am held responsible for my own work and am set tasks just the same as any other member of the team, so I have become an important element of the team.
The programme is very well structured and is very clear on what I need to be getting on with in advance so I can stay ahead on my NVQ work alongside my day to day roles.
Semta (my training provider) are always helpful and very quick to respond to any issues or questions I may have about my work. I have monthly reviews to make sure I am keeping on track with my work and to assist me where needed.
My employer is always supportive in all aspects of the programme from the day to day help to even help with my NVQ work. HPP have assigned every apprentice a mentor who has volunteered there time to assist with the programme in any way needed. Support is always around where and when I need it.
My salary suits my costs really well even when I am renting a place of my own and travelling to and from work. I still cover my costs every month with money to spare. Plus the programme is based on a pay rise scheme so every 6 months my salary increases.
The nature of HPP and being in the F1 industry means that there are times where work takes over a bit of time outside of working hours but there is still plenty of time to take on other things outside of work. There are often outside of work opportunities set up within the team just for social events.
Yes
An great opportunity that exceeded my expectations and I love being a part of.
My advice to anyone applying for the apprenticeship scheme at HPP is to put as much effort in to the application process and your CV as possible to make yourself stand out against all the other applicants. Make sure your previous experiences stand out and show what relevant experience you have to assist you in the apprenticeship as it really does help to get as much experience and knowledge as possible as it will stand out on your application and in the interviews. Lastly, at the assessment day stage just be yourself, the team are really friendly and make the experience very straight forward and pleasant. Just being a genuinely nice, polite, enthusiastic person gets you noticed.
