I am an accounts assistant training to become a chartered accountant. My job involves the preparation of year end financial statements, management accounts and bookkeeping, and iXBRL tagging and the preparation of VAT returns for clients. My daily interactions are primarily in the office however I also have contact with clients.
I have learnt many new skills from attending college including the basics of accountancy, book keeping and controls and using accountancy software such as Sage at college and in the work place and have took part in a training course for Xero.
The training program has definitely mat my expectations and I am very glad I joined this company as they support you very well in your training and have a lot of social events you can attend. I enjoy coming to work and have made great relationships in the office, as well as attending college.
Mazars definitely values its employees as in the 6 months I have worked here I have already participated in 2 away days, been to NCASS and been for a lot of meals, showing they treat their staff well.
The structure is brilliant as I have a mentor that I meet regularly and there are other students who have been in the same position as me who can help me. We also have our own rep from Kaplan who we can contact whenever we want and is very helpful.
Kaplsn provide us with a lot of study support including online materials along with notes and text books, mock exams and revision days. We also have a rep from Kaplan who we can contact with any queries whenever we want who is very approachable and helpful.
I couldn't ask for any more support from my employer as I have 5 study days a year I can use as well as time off for college and exams. There is so many people I can turn to from help and everyone is very helpful.
We are provided with the living wage and it is much higher than what I would expect for a first year apprentice, it is very generous.
The company offers lots of opportunities outside of work particularly networking events that you can participate in, as well as leisure/sport eg there is a running group every Wednesday. There are many social events such as first Friday drinks, and opportunities to meet individuals from other firms such as NCASS annual ball.
Yes
Mazars is a great company to work for as they treat you well in terms of social events, pay a generous wage and support you lots in your study. It is definitely a great alternative to university!
Do lots of research before applying about the company and just the accountancy in general so you know what to expect and can help you in the application process. Try get some relevant work experience in the finance industry so you have some experience to talk about.
