My Job Title is Technician Engineer (Civils). I am currently working on the Westgate Oxford Development which is a £500m shopping centre. and my day to day role Involves managing all technical aspects of site works for an area i.e. Dimensional control and setting out ,quality assurance and inspections and contributions to site management.
I have learnt a wealth of new skills in my new career as a civil engineer as well as developing existing skills, I am regularly put into situations that test my communication skills and I have learnt how to use survey equipment for setting out .
I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I am constantly learning new things and it gives me the opportunity to carry out my university studies in a much more interesting way.
I feel extremely valued by Laing O'Rourke as I have a great project team who rely on me heavily and my work is appreciated by others
My programme is reasonably well organized however I feel due to the project based nature of our work it is difficult to find support
My training provider is more than adequate in terms of support there are plenty of avenues to explore in order to find answers to question .
I feel that support from my employer is hard to find as I work so far away from head office it is difficult to find the right person to speak to in order to answer questions and often the programme team do not have answers so it takes time to rectify problems
My Pay package more than meets my costs as all of my living away costs are paid and ,y tracel to work and university os paid so money is not a problem
There are various opportunities outside work and my particulsr project has quite a good social scene so there are options outside of work , however some events are only aimed at head office staff so it is difficult to get involved
Yes
