As a Project Controller my role is to support the delivery of multiple small sized international projects which form a portfolio. Areas of responsibility include scheduling, risk, resourcing and reporting. This role requires myself to interact with an array of stakeholders across the business, with occasional interactions externally.
My knowledge of Project Management has developed massively in the last 18 months. There are plenty of informal and formal training opportunities both within the framework of the apprenticeship and in the wider business. The company has a massive array of courses available and development is always held as
The colleagues within my training group are like-minded and make the experience incredibly enjoyable. Colleagues within my work placement are friendly, supportive and approachable. The apprenticeship exceeds my expectations in the majority of aspects.
The review process means that recognition for achievements is a constant presence. I have been rewarded from both the Apprentice Manager and my Placement Managers, and there are multiple awards available that recognise the value of employees.
The structure of the programme is continuously improving and there are multiple mechanisms in place for Apprentices to proactively suggest improvements. The organisation of the scheme has been improved recently through an increased level of resourcing.
Support is always made available and it has been made clear of how we can request further support. There are dedicated resources that we are able to make use of.
The scheme has a dedicated management structure which means support for the apprentices is always a priority. Across the wider business early careers are viewed in a highly positive way, and colleagues are always willing to support my development.
The salary is incredibly competitive and covers living costs sufficiently. There are annual increases and our future salary within the apprenticeship has been made known to us.
There are frequently social events organised by colleagues and the opportunity to get involved with local community / charity initiatives. There are opportunities provided on a regular basis across a wide range of categories.
Yes
The scheme provides excellent academic and vocational learning environments, and there is a good balance between both learning styles. The salary is highly competitive and the employee benefits are exceptional. The career of apprentices is an important aspect of BAE Systems values.
Do not rush any application, and think about the relevance of your experience within a project management / business setting. Do not be put off by the fear of applying, as the individuals throughout the entire process have honest and open intentions. The difficulty of the process should not be underestimated, so sufficient preparation is a must.
