My role includes me completing drawings for my colleagues from simple changes to more challenging work such as creating designs from scratch. I work largely in AutoCAD but also check other peoples work and do basic calculations.
During my apprenticeship I have learned how to use AutoCAD proficiently as I had never used it before. I have also improved my communication skills and am on my way to completing a Level 3 BTEC Construction course, which will lead onto a HNC course.
I do enjoy the programme but can find myself a little bored or under challenged sometimes. But our office is a small one so finding varied work that I can complete can be hard sometimes.
I feel very valued, as I was recently approached to take part in a degree programme which would further improve my education and position within the company.
I feel like the structure in our office isn't very good as there is no set guidelines to which I work from. But this does mean that I can work freely on other stuff like college work and any projects that people need me to complete.
A lot, I currently attend college two days a week which allows me to complete my course in a shorter time. My tutors provide great one to one sessions and lots of feedback.
It can vary, in terms of experience such as AutoCAD skills and site skills then I receive lots of help and support but in terms of office mentoring their isn't much support, as everyone in our office is contract so time is valuable.
Excellently. As a 17 year old, my wage is superb. It is way more than a part time job could provide and I have enough to save up for nice things and left over to run my car.
Not many, as our office is quite small and our clients and the work is all based on site so when it comes to events and do's there isn't such thing.
Yes
I believe that it is a great company to work for with offices all over the world and opportunities to work abroad. They offer a variety of apprenticeships in dozens of different disciplines.
Keep your mind open to different disciplines that are offered as it may surprise you what they involve. Work hard during college and be nice and friendly.
