I am currently a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. I get to help on major projects within my team, mainly working along side my line manager - which is an eye opening experience as you handle different tasks for different projects. I am always involved within my team socially as it is important to have a good rapport with your colleagues. My responsibilities vary from day to day as you get too see what it is like to work on other projects, from doing valuations to cost reports it is all a great learning experience and you can then see how the project is progressing.
I am currently studying for my 'Construction and the Built Environment Level 3' Diploma. Mott Macdonald have been very supportive during my studies and have always been there to help me. I have taken various training courses internally and I have attended a weekend away to the Lake District to understand what my job role really wants and how I can reach their goals. I have gained a great amount of confidence from this programme and it has been very beneficial to me in general as I am more aware as a person and understanding the ways of business is a great benefit to me. I have learnt how to work within a team, how to strive for success and the routine I must follow in order to become a good Quantity Surveyor.
I enjoy working as it gets you into a routine from a young age. My team are very friendly and I have never felt intimidated by any members of staff. They company is very welcoming and understanding and everyione gets treated equally and with respect. Working for Motts has gone beyond my expectations as I feel I have achieved so much in so little time! I love what I am doing now and I wish to settle with what I am doing.
I feel valued within Motts as I am treated with the same manor as other staff weather it be Grade A to Grade E. I am often being taken to site visits and not being discarded in the office so I feel like they are putting in great effort to widen my knowledge. I am involved within projects and I feel like that is a great way to learn the trade, attending meetings and site visits is very beneficial to me as you learn how to deal with any issues that arise and you can see how projects progress along time. I feel valued as recognition is always there and I never feel like I am worth any less to anyone else in the office.
My programme is very well structured. Motts allow me to carry out a study day a week to make sure my work load is balanced so I can hand in all my assignments on time. I receive great support within the business and people are always willing to help me so I don't feel like I am struggling alone. This programme is very well organised as I can balance my work load from Motts and my college and also maintain a good social life.
I receive a lot of support and guidance within this programme as I never left unsure. I have always been able to arrange a tutor to come into Motts and explain and deal with what I don't understand and I feel like my education is always very important to them. I feel welcomed and involved within my business which allows you to gain confidence and success.
I receive a lot of support from everyone in the office. My line manager has always been very supportive and understanding, and my college mentors are very easy to contact.
I am currently being paid above the minimum wage for my age and I am happy with my salary, as pay rises are available to you when your achievements have been noticed.
I have been invited to events outside of work and many company activities. Motts hold social events outside of work hours that is local to bond with the team and to become friendly with everyone in the office. When I wasn't working I was at school and I didn't feel like I was valued or to their importance so coming into a well known business like Motts has made me much more aware as a person and I am very comfortable with my working situation.
Yes
Motts has helped me achieve everything I was concerned about. not only do they teach you about the QS trade but they also take your struggles into account. They will do what it takes to make sure you are getting to the best of your education. The staff are very friendly and you never are made felt less of than others. My confidence within the trade and as a person has grown beyond belief.
I did not apply to Motts as I was brought into the business by a current employee. However I would defiantly recommend it!
