My job role is to create plans to which the workers on the shop floor can stick to, ranging from and overall plan for a contract, to day to day plans to ensure they meet the deadlines. I also create cost packs weekly to review how many hours have been spent on which job and whether or not they are performing on, above or below target.
I feel I've already learnt a lot from when I first started. Including developing my Microsoft excel skills massively. It has also had a huge impact on my confidence and much of a more confident person I am.
I greatly enjoy this programme. All the people I have come across/ worked with have been really helpful and friendly. They will do what they can to help you and make sure you have got the right tools to do the job that you are needed to do. I think BAE Systems is a great company to work for, and anyone looking to start a career here.
I feel I play a big part within the company, no matter where you go they always tell you that the apprentices are the future of the company and they are well looked after and valued. You don't get treat like the usual apprentice and given the rubbish jobs that they don't want to do. You are treat with respect and given task which are a big responsibility.
The apprenticeship scheme At BAE systems is well structured and thought out. It starts with a 2 week induction period where you will meet the rest off your colleagues that you will be on the apprenticeship programme with. There is so much training and support from your assessors and fellow colleagues to help you along side your studying and training. The jobs you are given are very fair and make you feel as though you are needed within that team.
The training providers are extremely supportive and will do what they can to help you out where they can. They are easily accessible, and will always try and find out something for you if its something they do not know them selves.
The team that I am in currently provide a massive amount of support and guidance. They always make sure that whatever you are doing works for you and that you are happy with what you are doing. If there are any problems they will go out of there way to make sure something can be done about it. Ive never felt like a hindrance towards the team and they made me feel very welcome when I joined the team.
The Salary for the apprenticeship here is very good and more than adequate to meet costs of living/ travel in to work. There is public transport in to each site and they can cover the cost of travel if you are travelling on work time.
There are So many opportunities for apprentices here, from going on the German exchange programme to becoming a student ambassador and travelling around schools to promote the apprenticeship programme. You are never short of opportunities to get involved in.
Yes
I think that overall this is a brilliant company to work for. The apprentices are very well looked after and get a lot of support alongside there training and studying. There are so many opportunities along side your apprenticeship and also once you have finished it. There are plenty of things that you can get involved in and you will no doubt make plenty of friends when you're on the scheme.
Make sure you stand out for the right reasons, what makes you different?. In the interview show willing and determination but also show you are a team player. Always be willing to learn and take new jumps, it will get you far within the company. Just be yourself and you will enjoy it.
