I'm currently undertaking a advanced Business apprenticeship at BAE Systems. within my Business Apprenticeship I carry out both Estimating and Contracting activities. Throughout the apprenticeship we move around the business into different Placements; these placements depend on the function that you are in. for me I'm in commercial so my placements vary between Contracting and Estimating which vary in levels of difficulty and responsibility. I attend various meetings and presentations with my team.
My apprenticeship started in September 2016 so I have only been here for a short period of time, however saying that I have developed massively as a person. we attended an outward bound course in the Lake District which allowed us to learn new skills and push ourselves, not only that but build relationships up with the other apprentices. Some of the Skills I have developed include: communication skills (I'm able to speak to people of senior positions), organisational skills, presentation skills and Microsoft excel skills.
I personally think my programme is excellent. We have such a good programme in place, with many opportunities and courses widely available to us to ensure that we get the best training.
Within this company we aren't treated like the normal apprentice who goes and makes brews and files paper work. Instead we are given packages of work to complete which is relent to the Company and is worth while. I feel as though I'm a valued member of BAE Systems.
Our programme is very well structured by everyone at the training school. There are many measures put in place to ensure everything is going well and we are on target. Our assessors have regular meetings with us to ensure our college and NVQ work is up to date.
We are given as much support as we want or need.
Again BAE Systems provides so much guidance and help throughout your apprenticeship. That's not saying we are handing everything to us, however if you have a specific question or are struggling with something then there is always someone you can contact.
I personally think the salary here at BAE Systems is excellent.
Yes, there are so many courses and opportunities within work and outside. For example, you can attend a 3 day First Aid course. other opportunities include working in a different country.
Yes
BAE Systems is such a reputable company which anyone would be proud to work for. The apprenticeship scheme is incredible with many training courses and opportunities.
The main piece of advice I would give to anyone applying to BAE Systems would be 'be yourself'. Don't be nervous in the interview as they only want to know about you they aren't trying to trick you out.
