I am currently working for MESC General Systems were I managed orderboks and raise orders for Typhoon and Hawk aircrafts. I make sure that the debt sheet is up to date and try to sort out any problems I have with my suppliers. I send out a production report to management every two weeks. I have a very close relationship with the supplier and have daily calls and also visits down to their sites.
I have developed my stake holder management skills, communication, relationship and organisation skills. I have also advanced my presentation skills and excel skills. I have been on a procurement awareness course and going on an introduction to estimating commercial course in March. At college I am starting a project management course and a level 3 business NVQ.
I love working at BAE Systems as each team has made me feel welcomed and settled. I have a consistent work load but not too much that I feel over loaded. I am able to network around the business as I have 5 different placements. It exceeded my expectations.
I feel exceptionally valued at BAE Systems, whenever I need any help I don't feel scared to ask for it. I have had sessions with higher management. When I tell anyone that I work at BAE Systems everyone is very impressed and have made me realise how lucky I am to be on this scheme. I have now helped with various projects and always get the recognition and praise after completion.
Very well organised. We had a two week induction to the course at the training centre before we started our placements and have 12 weekly reviews and 3 probationary reviews. There are currently help sessions/workshops on every week if we needed any help with our NVQ and if we have any issues we can always phone them up and book a meeting. During our placements our managers are allowed to give us 2 hours of study but will allow more time if needed and are always happy to help out. My programme is very well structured and clearly sets out how long you are in each of the placements and when you move- this is good as it gives you a wider understanding of the business as your not stuck in one placement for the entire time.
My tutor is great and always happy to help. Vey easy to get hold of if in need of any advise or support. Look forward to having meeting with them.
If I am in need of any support my management and training centre are more than willing to help out. I have also joined the Union so if I have any problems I am able to speak to them
Really well. When I was looking to get an apprenticeship I wasn't expecting to be on as much money as what I am. I always have enough money for any social events as well as being able to save up and pay for my car/petrol.
Yes, there is the opportunity to go on outward bound, German exchange, the princes trust and becoming a stem ambassador. As well as participating in many local community events such as the mission Christmas and poppy appeal. There is the onsite gym and netball, football and balling team. When I didn't have my apprenticeship I was doing my A-Levels at sixth Form.
Yes
Because it is good pay, you are never bored. There are lots of networking opportunities in and out of the business with various career pathways after the apprenticeship. It is a valued apprenticeship and looked good upon.
Make sure you spend a long time on your application and speak to current apprentices to get a good idea of the programme itself. Always include many skills but back these up with examples of were you've shown them. Big on TEAM WORK.
