I am a 'Business Management Apprentice' for BAE Systems, working at their Warton Site. I am currently in my second of four placements, the two placements which I have been involved in are within procurement - one being Supplier Management & Development and the other being Sensors & Weapons. The main tasks within these roles are dealing with BAE's Suppliers, and managing them to ensure that the relationship between each company is reasonable. I have looked at the management and intelligence of our suppliers and how the supply chain works, and now being in more of an actual buying/pricing role.
I have been on a couple of training courses, however I feel that I would of liked to attend more as they are extremely useful but rare to attend. I have developed my confidence and organisational skills through being in the office environments. However I feel that I would of actually liked to of learn more during my apprenticeship, as I think it is majority experience based, and not enough knowledge.
My levels of enjoyment vary from time to time. When I feel like I am learning and actually making an impact towards the company I really enjoy it. However when I am just doing day to day tasks that don't really have much relevance or impact - I feel like there isn't a point in being there as I am not learning anything.
I feel that all of the benefits in which the company gives to me are great, however I don't really feel that I add much value as it is such a large company, I cant see the impact in which I am making. Nor have I actually received any credit for the work which I have done as of yet.
I think the organisation of the programme is very good. it is always clear what's happening and there are lots of different people to talk to about any problems. I think it is always clear what's happening and what I will be doing in the future.
I would say that I receive a good amount of support from my assessors and managers, however I feel like it would be beneficial to have more guidance as sometimes I feel quite lost in the numbers.
I receive a good amount of support from my manager however I haven't really been in contact with HR at all during my programme, I have a mentor which is good, and there are options available for support however I haven't had to use them as of yet.
I think the Salary for my scheme is great, it allows me to have some enjoyment whilst being able to live comfortably.
There are quite a few however there are a lot of age restrictions as myself being 16 I don't have access to them which is quite disappointing.
Yes
There are a lot of opportunities and it can open doors to the outside world, it is a well credited apprenticeship.
Confidence is key, I wouldn't really say that your intelligence defines you however I would personally say that the best attribute is how you come across, not your capability.
