I work in a small development team, originally working in a back-end host role and since moving to front-end client/web development to suit the content of my degree.
I have learnt a lot of the basis of programming fundamentals and general project management. I have also been heavily involved in the development lifecycle, end-to-end projects.
I highly enjoy the degree training element of the apprenticeship, particularly travelling to a new location to undergo training for my role. I have enjoyed the greater exposure to the IT industry I have gained from this.
As I work in a small team, it is easier to feel more valued as there are fewer of us to focus attention and support on. My team is highly supportive and keen to develop me in a number of ways to aid my future career.
Within my team, it is well organised, but on a wider, group level it is very difficult to get any queries answered or responses. If I ever have an issue with the apprenticeship, I have to go through several layers of escalation before receiving an answer.
My training provider is my university who provide all the same support mechanisms as they do to regular students. For the most part, this is unnecessary as I receive a lot of support from my team, but it is very reassuring to know that it is there if needed.
I receive a lot of support from the team that I sit within, particularly from my task manager who also mentors me weekly.
The salary at LBG is very competitive, particularly for apprenticeships. The benefits package is also very reasonable.
You are encouraged here to take on other voluntary pieces of work outside of your role and the internal job shop is useful in finding alternative roles within the company. Location can sometimes be an issue.
Yes
I have had an enjoyable experience at LBG and imagine I will continue to do so over the coming years. The training I have been provided at no cost is remarkable.
Make sure you are open minded with regards to what role you may be given. When applying through an apprenticeship, apprentices are assigned based only on location as opposed to skillset.
