  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an analyst as part of a financial reporting team within the Commercial Banking division of Lloyds Banking Group. On a daily basis this involves preparing financial journals, providing variance analysis and dealing with stakeholder queries. I work in a team of about 12 people within the larger financial reporting team

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I came into the role having no background in finance. I am working towards the certificate level of CIMA and a level 4 diploma in management accounting practice. On top of this I am learning new processes in my usual role at all times

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work is very challenging - but I like a challenge! The team that surrounds me are extremely helpful and the "apprentice" tag is not an issue. The company is trying hard to better the work life balance of colleagues and there is a good support for agile working. I think the workload may be more than I expected but I am enjoying the daily work more than I thought I would

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Lloyds Banking Group?
  • Good recognition within the immediate team and the Financial reporting team. As part of an up and coming apprenticeship scheme I feel our opinion is valued well by the group.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction, intro into our roles, support and study setup is well managed. There are a few bits and pieces were communication could be improved.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is a good online presence for the work we are completing. The assessor is also good for responding to questions. The computer based teaching of the modules I am still unsure of how effective this is for me but time will tell.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Good support and understanding from line manager. Slightly more hesitation in relation to study time above this as business as usual roles are obviously very important. The workload is high within my team so trying to balance this could be difficult.

    8/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Good salary for an apprentice. An increase from my previous wage but as it's in the centre of Edinburgh I am no better off after paying for travel

    7/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Lots of options - many social clubs and groups. Lots of volunteering opportunities and always some charity work going on.

    10/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Lloyds Banking Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Good overall package - work is challenging but enjoyable, people are friendly and overall package including pension and rewards is not bad.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lloyds Banking Group?
  • The application process for this apprenticeship was tough. Be yourself. Don't try to be someone you're not or speak for the sake of speaking. If you're going to say something make sure it's meaningful because in a group situation it will be clear if you're trying too hard
