Job Title: Electrical and Instrumentation Technician My role once i have completed my apprenticeship will be operate and maintain the electrical and instrumentation equipment and systems throughout the gas network. On a day to day basis I will perform scheduled maintenance and installations of equipment throughout the gas network.
I have developed a range of new skills and developed my current skills. I have completed a PEO which has given me all the basic skills required to completed further qualifications. Currently I am in the process of completing a BTEC level 3 in Engineering which is giving me better knowledge of the area in which I will be working.
The people i work with are really easy to get a long with and the work is enjoyable. The programme has a varied subjects that keeps my interest and makes it enjoyable.
You do get recognition if you excel at something.
The first couple of months were a introduction to National Grid. Then everything else that we have been taught has linked together slowly building our understanding from the the basics upwards.
Any help needed is given by the tutors. They will also stay after class if you need more help.
My line manager and mentor are very helpful with anything that i need or ask. National grid also has a good HR and support network if you need help.
All costs associated with the company such as travel costs are are covered by the company. When we are at the training centre our accomodation and food is all covered as well. All this means that our pay is sufficent to cover our social and personal costs.
There are various lesiure facilities at the training centre (e.g. Gym). You are given the opportunity to get involved with the company outside of your job for charity events etc.
