  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a tax analyst comprises working with teams of seniors on technical projects involving international corporates. My role on the project team can often include liaising with international Deloitte contacts, drafting emails to clients and finding technical research which may be useful for the end deliverable.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining, I would say the skill I have developed most is my ability to speak in a professional manner amongst team members, colleagues and in everyday life. I have gained a lot of technical knowledge which also helps with professional exams that I am undertaking.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say that I enjoy my programme thoroughly as I am provided with the opportunity to display my capabilities whilst also having time for social events in the company. There is always a good culture amongst the workforce and everyone is happy to guide me through things I do not understand.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Deloitte?
  • In my opinion, I feel more valued than I thought I would. Straight from the outset, I was given tasks that gave me instant responsibility and when completing them, my input was appreciated. When I pass exams, Deloitte are first to congratulate me for effort I have put in.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The balance between work and exams is manageable as there are often 2 month gaps between exams in the first year. This allows for exposure in the office to the work life. The programme is well organised in the fact that there is clear structure to progression and what is required from me to get to the next grade.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider often emails me asking whether my revision is going well and whenever I have any questions, they are there to answer. The training provider also sets up online classrooms a week before the exam so as a year group we can go over topics or questions we are unsure on.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer understands that the work and study balance is not always easy and thus the weeks before the exam, my team will often encourage me to leave on time to ensure I have adequate time for revision. Upon passing, I am recognised for my efforts and the general attitude makes me feel valuable.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I believe the salary is very generous for someone with no prior technical knowledge or a degree. Yet I still think on my current salary I would not be able to live close to the office whilst still having money for social and personal costs. Hence moving away from home may be a better option in years 2 and 3.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I regularly am given the opportunity to get involved with graduate/undergraduate recruitment events which can include attending schools to give talks about the programme or even attending careers fairs in which others can ask me about the scheme. On the social side, there are regular events organised either for the team I am working in or as an office and this creates a real sense of togetherness in the office.

  • 9. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would 100% recommend Deloitte to a friend because being a part of such a big firm allows for exposure to relevant matters in today's economy. Deloitte give undergraduates the opportunity to become professionally qualified, gain invaluable experience on the job and a good salary and there is a lot of fun as well as the hard work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • My tips for applying to Deloitte would be to ensure that you stay humble when in the interview and make sure you do not pretend to be someone you are not. Deloitte's interviewers will look for someone they can envisage making good relationships with their clients in the future and for these reasons make sure you have more to you than just being academically brilliant!
