General supporting administrative tasks. Taking notes at meetings. Identifying business opportunities for the business development department. Competitive intelligence
I have taken the opportunity to gain a qualification with AAT at level 2 in accounting
I find the sector within which I work to be extremely interesting and have only positive experiences with regards to my colleagues.
I feel that my line managers appreciate the work I put into my tasks and value my contributions
Not very - possibly the only real negative that I feel is that although BAE systems has provided apprenticeships in the past, these have been in the engineering functions, not the business functions and so they are learning on the job effectively. It appears that the engineering apprentices as a whole are better supported and have more direction.
I feel that my training provider is reasonably supportive, however we only meet every 4 or 5 weeks so there isn't constant contact.
I feel as though if I ever have any issues there is always somebody there that I could talk to and who would do everything they could to help.
For an apprenticeship the wage is excellent. I started on just under minimum wage for a 24 year in a normal line of work, roughly £4/hr more than the minimum wage for an apprentice. I travel to another site every week and I am supported through the use of a hire car to cover my costs.
A lot of Land(UK) employees took part in a community activity to construct buildings and play areas in Somerset/Bristol last year. There are also some clubs and opportunities outside of the office, however I haven't personally looked into them myself.
Yes
It is a really interesting place to work, with opportunities to work at various sites in different roles for a global company that can provide you with security that smaller companies may not be able to offer.
Be patient. It is a difficult process to get people employed in this sector due to security concerns (I quit my old job and had 7 weeks of unemployment as a result). Just go for it!
