My role as a Business Administration Apprentice involved carrying out basic admin roles on a day-to-day basis. This included working with reporting systems such as SAP and Excel spread sheets.
I have learnt many news skills such as communications between different functions within a business and how this helps team cohesion to develop and complete projects.
I thoroughly enjoyed my programme throughout and became a key member of my particular team. It met and exceeded my expectations and has developed me as a person.
As an apprentice I felt extremely valued by BAE Systems as an asset for the future, because they see the early careers employees as the future of the business.
Considering this was the first year intake on my particular programme it was quite well structured as I had opportunities to go on loan to different functions. Although I do believe it could be slightly better.
I received good support from my training provider when they came to visit the workplace for regular meetings, however once off-site I felt the support was not there.
I received the absolute maximum support from my employer as I was given any opportunity to carry out extra-curricular work by my line manager whenever I needed it.
The salary was very good for an apprenticeship and was increased during my second year. This has helped to meet my costs greatly and supported my lifestyle.
There are many opportunities outside of work such as attending career fayres and joining the Army as a reservist, which is highly driven by the company.
Yes
BAE Systems nurture and value their apprentices highly, as they recognise that they are the future and are keen to develop in employees with skills for the future.
Expect an intense interview process, as this may involve telephone interview, assessment days or even presentations alongside other candidates. However, it is a great opportunity for anyone looking for a successful career.
