My current role as an apprentice is in Aerodynamics. My daily tasks include producing aircraft performance models and the associated performance figure supplied to customers.
I've learnt a number of new skills, I've learnt how to use the bespoke aerodynamic software that produces the aircraft performance models and I've learnt how to use other graphing software. I've also learnt a lot about aerodynamic principles.
I really enjoy the programme that I'm on, the work in my current department is very interesting and over the years I have worked in various areas. This has made the programme very enjoyable as I have experienced a wide range of our business.
I feel very valued by the business, in every department that I've been in I've been given work that was befitting of full employee's, not just 'minor' tasks that may traditionally be given to apprentices. I have received a number of awards during my apprenticeship which again have helped me feel valued.
The programme I am on is very well structured, I'm currently in my 4th year and throughout each year we have had a set number of three placements. These are picked by our supervisor and are best suited to give us the skills we need to succeed at work.
As work is our primary training provider, we are given full support by the staff in our various departments, with the supervisors and other staff supporting us in our day to day work. We also receive good support from training staff, HR and the Union. At college we are given good support from all tutors who are open to help and discuss any issues either on our college day or via e-mail.
I receive full support from my employer, we are given full support by the staff in our various departments, with the supervisors and other staff supporting us in our day to day work. We also receive good support from training staff, HR and the Union
The salary that we are paid is more than good enough to meet the costs of living. On my salary I am able to afford all of things I need to live and I can afford to enjoy myself. I also have enough to start saving for things in the future.
There are plenty of opportunities outside of work. most departments will host activities outside of work that apprentices are invited too, work also has it's own club where employees can go to meet or play sports.
Yes
I would recommend the company to a friend because the company is one of the biggest in the world and they offer a great opportunity for a great career. They provide superb training that produces a high standard of engineer.
The application for BAE Systems is the standard tell us about yourself sort of questions and some aptitude tests. I would advise that you brush up on math, English and engineering aptitude tests and that for the personal questions you are honest, show enthusiasm and that you show that you are a team player. In addition charity work is highly regarded so anyone who goes above and beyond in terms of the things they do, I would mention that.
