  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Service and repair apprentice. We keep boilers running by maintaining and replacing parts when required. Working on multiple appliances

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I came into this apprenticeship with zero experience and now I can competently carry out my role. My customer service skills have increased immeasurably . With more practice I hope to be very good at the job

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It's varied, interesting and not too paperwork heavy. Always something new to look forward to and I'm fortunate enough to have made a good group of friends

  • 4. How valued do you feel by British Gas?
  • I am treated with respect by all staff and am kept up to date with all news on the company with regular emails. Down on patch I feel a welcome part of the team

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We were given a timetable which has been kept to slightly flexibly, but most of the time I know what's going on in the next few weeks

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Training provider is always on hand to help, and if he is unavailable and alternative source of help is available

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Not much communication is made between myself and British gas directly however I am confident in them if I do need it

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As a first year I am on a low wage...but it is a lot better than most other apprenticeship schemes and am soon on a better rate after the first year

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I would say this is a weak point but at the moment I am so focused on work I'm not fussed. Plenty of discounts on gym memberships etc available

  • 9. Would you recommend British Gas to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They offer great training using great facilities, have provided me with a van for travel, all tools etc and have delivered a varied course which I have enjoyed.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Gas?
  • Do your research on the company, make sure you have quality examples of practical experience and a practical mind. Also a love for fixing things with your hands and being challenged
