Visiting customers homes and exchanging gas and electric meters for new smart meters. Also giving energy efficiency advice to customers allowing them to see how smart meters can save them money on there energy bills.
Since I have been training at my academy, I have learnt a whole range of completely new skills such as giving energy efficiency advice to customers as well as developing existing skills such as the importance of health and safety in a working environment.
I enjoy my training programme most of the time. I have always been more of a hands on type of person and I feel this is how I learn more, however I understand that importance of knowing the theory behind why I may be doing something in the workshop or on a job.
I feel im a valued part of the team. I feel everyone seems to accept they are in a team together and everyone is more than happy to help you out if you need advice etc.
I feel the programme is very well organised. So far everyone in my group is up to date on work log books and assignments. The tutors in the academy do a very good job at keeping an organised structure of the programme ensuring each part of the course is delivered on time.
I feel I get as much support as I need within the academy and out on site. If there's anything I need help with or I don't understand either my tutor will happily go through it again or my mentor on site will go through it on a job or try and talk me through it until I understand fully.
Again I feel my employer gives me all the support I require. Any training material that may help with the programme is always provided and any tools or equipment during the course are provided.
I feel I'm fortunate enough to be still living at home with my parents and they understand I have taken quite a large pay cut to go ahead with this employment if I was renting or had a family to support I don't think I would have been able to take the job as the salary at the start of the course is very low. In the long run the course will be worth it as the salary does go up.
I know British Gas do run events outside of work and they also do sponsorship for some events however I'm not too well informed about these.
