I'm a Management Consultant at PwC. My job includes shadowing more senior employees when on projects at clients sites. During this work I help support the team in providing deliverables to the client, this is great exposure to have as my work that I create gets seen by the client who gives us feedback on where to improve, which enhances my performance on the job. I also set up meetings internally and externally with all different grades of staff in the firm. I do something different every day as it depends what client I am working for, each day is challenging and no two tasks are the same. This helps me on the job as every task I complete puts me in good stead for future projects. I am constantly learning new things and always improving based on the feedback I receive from my peers.
I am currently studying for a Level 4 diploma in Management Consulting, which will give me a new qualification and an enhanced learning of why businesses can benefit from a management consultant. I have also developed my confidence as I am having to talk to all staff of all grades both internally and externally. I also have to facilitate meetings and workshops which also adds to my confidence. The programme has also helped me understand the world of work a lot better as I didn't know what to expect when leaving college. I am really enjoying the challenges that everyday brings.
I enjoy everything about my programme and job. The work isn't too easy and it isn't too hard, it's about right for my level, if I get any work that I can't complete then I know someone in my team will be able to assist me in completing it. The team that I work with are so accommodating and friendly, I know that I could go to any of them with any issues or queries that I have as they're all approachable. PwC's culture is also great as they have many different activities that you can get involved in outside of work such as volunteering opportunities and joining a sports team. These events are great as it also helps you connect with other areas in the firm who you wouldn't get to meet on jobs. Working for PwC has exceeded my expectations and I am really enjoying working for the firm and meeting all the people who share the same thoughts as me.
At PwC we are all assigned a people manager when we join who is there to assist us when we first join and throughout our time at PwC. They also help with end of year moderation to make sure we showcase all of our best qualities so that we are shown as adding value to the company. I feel valued by my colleagues at PwC as I always request feedback when completing a project at clients site. I receive great feedback from the tasks that I took ownership for and I also get great ways on how to improve when completing the tasks next time. I also get good exposure and feedback from clients as they tell us what we did well and how we can improve too. If we develop a good relationship with the client then there's an opportunity to sell on more work with them. I felt valued in all of the projects that I've been involved with as the senior members of the team delegated some of the major tasks in the project to me to complete. These documents then went onto the client which they were very impressed with.
When joining the firm we got given great pointers of how to thrive at PwC. We had several talks from the different competencies situated in the firm to tell us what work we could be getting involved in. The training also takes place in the same week and we're told that they can't tell us what typically happens day to day as everyone's experience in the firm is different and no two days are the same. The recruitment advisors were really good at organising all of this for us. Prior to joining the firm, we are given a 'buddy' who we can contact if we have any queries or worries about first joining. This is a great system that PwC have in place as it settles new joiners nerves when they haven't been in the situation before. The only thing that the firm could improve on is communicating the apprentice diploma information to us after we joined the firm, as we had to chase the information ourselves from not receiving the location or times of our study days.
I'm starting the learning for my course at the end of the month so I can't answer the majority of this question yet. But the information for the course has been slowly relayed from the provider to PwC. This was very slow when we wanted to know when, where and how we would be learning for our college course.
The support within PwC is great. Everyone in the firm is there for you to talk to with any issues you may have and if they don't hold the answer they almost always will know where to send you to find out the information. Everyone holds the same attitude within the firm so it's overall a great experience and firm to join as you know you'll always receive support.
Going from not working to suddenly having an income, it was a shock to the system. The salary covers all travel costs that I have and I still have plenty left over for doing social things and living costs. The salary very competitive for a new joiner to any firm.
As mentioned above there are plenty opportunities to get involved in at PwC. There's also one day a year where we have a volunteering day and raise as much money as we can to support local charities. This is firm wide in the UK and raises thousands every year. There are plenty sports and leisure activities to get involved in and emails go out weekly to update you on where the new opportunities are.
Yes
PwC is a friendly place to work and great to progress through, as everyone is so supportive and tells you where you can improve. This is great to have in a company as it makes you feel valued to the firm.
I would say always be yourself and confidence is key to the interview section of the process. Also, make sure that you practice the tests at the start of the application process as it really helps you when you come to do the real thing as you know what to expect. If you've got through the process and have been offered the job, then well done! Make sure that you let them have your email so that it can be provided to your buddy so that you can start asking your burning questions early on so that you feel more relaxed when your joining day starts. I would take every opportunity that you're able to here at PwC as it always looks good when you're going above and beyond at end of year review. I would have liked to have been told more about a day in the life of a management consultant so that I could have known what to expect!
