I'm a Smart Energy Expert which involves installing smart electric and gas meters into customers homes. Providing them with information on smart meters and giving energy saving advice.
I have learnt many new skills and have developed existing ones. I have learnt about basic electrics and am gas safe which is a great opportunity. I have also developed my customer service skills.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my program and would happily reccomend it to anyone thinking of applying. I know any apprentice with British gas is a good opportunity.
I feel very valued by British gas and feel as though I am given many opportunities to progress.
I feel the structure of the program is very well structured but some parts in the academy can be a little slow. A lot of time sitting and waiting.
I received a lot of support from my training provider and felt there was no question I couldn't ask and get an answer to.
I get a lot of support from my employer. My manager, coach and more experienced colleagues are always happy to help
I feel the salary package is very well structured for an apprentice as it rises with your experience. But feel once signed off the wage is far below other meter operatives in other companies.
I have seen a few opportunities sinse I have worked for British gas for other departments and to further better myself.
Yes
The apprentice wage is a generous wage and it is a shirt course so won't be long till on full salary. It's good to get electrical qualifications aswell as gas safe.
Be very observant and have a high attention to detail. Health and safety is priority in this job and there is no room for error.
