  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Metering Instrument Technician at Centrica's Barrow Gas Terminals - completed apprenticeship in 2015. Carry out maintenance on fiscal metering systems (that measure export production gas and condensate) by performing calibrations of instruments to high tolerances. Instrumentation I work with include flow meters, pressure, density and temperature transmitters and gas quality analysers. Centrica's revenue is based off the total production from the terminal, therefore ensuring this is measured correctly is a critical job. Not only were we taught to perform tasks to a high standard but also with personal and process safety in mind. I work in a within team of six metering technicians as part of the larger instrumentation department.
