as an apprentice I am on a job rotor, so the type of placement can give a completely different job depending. in my current role I am designing enclosure for circuit cards and running simulation analysis using CAD. I now carry out real project work and contribute to departments for each one which I enter.
I am working towards my HNC in engineering, and working towards my NVQ level 3. I have also undertaken internal courses to add to the training I was receiving on the job, some of these courses include Creo training, what is a missile?, product safety etc.
I really enjoy my program, the people are very accepting and the work is interesting. being able to move around gives you a wider network and ability to see what I enjoy and dislike. the apprenticeship has definitely met my expectations.
I do feel value from my line managers and employers as I am given work of value and am praised if it is done well. I have been recognised my other staff of my efforts of my work as it comes into their light.
the program is well structured, as the program is organised with inductions, training, college, buddies, a placement schedule and life skill courses.
My NVQ advisor comes about once every 3 months. They give plenty of support where possible however it sometimes feels like progress is slow.
I get a lot of support from my employer. they are very helpful and is always willing to listen and work through problems wherever they can. I know I can always call, email or see my employer and know they will be there.
I live with parents as I'm not ready to move out. my salary meets my current needs for travel/social etc. but I am probably about a year or two away from being on a salary that could allow me to live on my own should I wish.
I go on several school events and get invited to various company events. outside of work I have plenty of time so I have the option to go to a club but I usually just concentrate on my hobbys at home.
Yes
MBDA offers a good and rounded apprenticeship, you will leave with a strong network and good skill so long as you work hard and take your opportunities well.
make sure you have examples outside of school, the employers like to know you done well in school but want to know you have a natural interest too!
